Mini-van Mama

This is a question for all you mommies of 3 out there. I was planning on just putting Abby and the baby in the two captains seats and then putting Chase in the back seat. When we were at the mall a couple weeks ago, I was walking to the car and saw this other mom putting her kids in her mini-van and she also had 3 kids. She had her littlest one in the captains seat, behind the passenger seat and the other two in the back. Then her other captains seat was folded down in the stow-n-go. I had never thought about this way before, but it make sense for ease of getting in and out. Chase knows how to unbuckle himself and Abby, but they both need to be buckled in by me and let me tell you, climbing into the back seat to buckle him now, is pretty hard, especially being 9 months prego. I think this would be nice for winter too, because the frozen tundra can get a bit extremely cold  and this way I can get in the car and close the door to buckle them all in.
What do you other mommies of 3 do for seating?

My stylin' really convenient and practical ride

This is how I am thinking about doing the seating
(except the captains seats would be switched)

I dont have a mini van, wish I did but that is how I would do it. Then the big kids can sit in the back and hang out and you can see the baby. I think that would be perfect!! Plus like you said in the cold it will be nice not to have to move all over the chairs and help Chase in the back.

Hmmmm, we have an eight seater van so I have all 3 in the row behind the driver/passenger. But if I only had two seats, I would do what you in the captains chair and two big kids in the back.

That's the set up I used when I had 3 or 4 kids (because of daycare). It's really nice in the winter to not have to stand out on the freezing cold to buckle kids in because I could climb right in. If you can swing it, it's really nice to keep the single seat down in the way back so you can load the kids from the back if you are going to be loading the stroller anyway.

The only bad thing is that you have to have really good aim if they need something while you're on the move.

I have a Suburban and prior to the baby coming I moved the "big kids" to the third row. They could see the movie better too! Now with the cold weather it's nice to get them all in, myself included, and then buckle up (as they are just 3 and under they can't do the buckles...H is learning) I guess the new md recommendations are to keep rear facing until 2...I was way to anxious with 1 & 2 but with number 3 I might wait....this way she can see the big kids. I am sure that will be more fun than watching me drive! :)

Can't wait to hear about your new arrival!!!

We have 4 children. 7.5, 5.5, 1.5 and 3 month old. Yes, I have a full van and full house!

When it was just the 3 we did what you are showing in your picture. Now we have to use both front seats. So the oldest 2 go in the back. Since they can buckle on their own. Our new carseat law all my kids have to still be in car seats too!

When we took a trip (hour and half drive) just the kids and I, I had the 1.5 yr old in the back with the 5.5. I move the oldest up so she could reach the baby and also reach my toddler. It worked great since I had to of course drive and my husband wasn't with us.

The bucket seats are great!

I have been reading your blog for a few weeks now! your title caught my attention. Your children are so cute and I can't wait to see the new baby. I think I found your blog from Kelly's Korner.

I have 3. I have a 3.5 year old daughter and 10 month old twin boys. I have my 3 year old in the back seat and the twins in the two captain seats. I keep half of the back seat down in the stow and go, so my daughter likes to come out of the back.
