Where are pictures of my cute kids?!

Ok, I have had some sad grandparents and friends that are missing pictures of my adorable kids...well, this is what we've been busy doing...

We have been spending our first few days of fall...

Playing outside with some warmer clothes on...

Playing soccer in the front yard...

and playing inside with t-shirts, cause we are so busy running around having fun...

Having all sorts of fun and yummy lunches...

and even watching some fun movies during quiet time...

but most of all, still being the best of friends...most of the time!

Parenting now vs. then!

I always wonder how I survived without all the gismos and gadgets that we have now, that our parents did have when we were little.

{Do you think parenting is harder than it used to be?} 63% of moms believe parenting is more difficult than it was in the past.

We bend over backwards to make sure our kids are happy and successful, but as a result our kids aren't learning coping strategies and we're seeing some scary trends. Children are more stressed than ever before, they're medicated more, and they are experiencing depression at a younger age. We've made parenting too hard; we need to relax and go back to the basics. (quoted from Parenting magazine)

I completely agree with this...I think parenting has become a competition and people have lost site of the basics. I thinking people are pushing their kids so much to excel that they are forgetting their priority should be making them feel loved and secure daily! I think the stress on kids these days is outrageous. Children need to learn how to relax and take it easy, to feel good, just like adults. Parents more and more are 'rescuing' their kids and hurting their self-esteem. Kids need to do things for themselves to boost their confidence. I know from watching Abby lately, as she is in her 'me do it' independent stage, that she gets so much out of accomplishing things herself and gets such a big smile and reward out of doing things on her own. We need to let our kids test the waters of everyday life and stop being their to do it for them or make sure they are doing it the way we want them to be doing it.
My mom always tells me...I don't know how you and your brothers survived. We didn't have nearly the stuff for parenting or the resources that there are now. I now know how....sticking to the basics. We often forget and get caught up in life...so remember to let your kids be happy and sucessful by letting them test their own waters by trial and error. You'll be happier, less stressed and have happier kids in the end.

{Do you think parenting is more difficult now that in the past?}

Make sure to stop by tomorrow, I am hosting the giveaway that I mentioned in this post last week! you won't want to miss it!

'Not Me' Monday!

Are you feeling guilty for leaving the windows open to catch a breeze when you know the air is on? Feel like a bag lady for wearing the same shirt for days on end? Get tricked by a fake news story and feel foolish? We'll don't! Not Me! Monday was born out of my desire to admit some of my imperfections and reveal a few moments I'd rather forget. You may find it therapeutic to join in and do the same thing!
Head over to Mckmama's blog to see why everyone else isn't perfect!

My dog did not take off twice this week and run all the way down to the private high school that we live by. I would never stop at the end of the driveway and wish him well...it is not fun seeing a pregnant lady running after her wild dog.

My week was completely stress free and I did not have a million last minute things to do for my sister-in-laws wedding. I did not feel as if I had more to do, than my own.

I did not get to go get a pedicure, while drinking decaf campfire mocha from Caribou on Friday, while my hubby watched the kids. It would never be nice to have someone else do my toes, since they are not getting hard to reach. He did not say after 2 hours of me being gone, that he was 'done' and I could come get the kids. There is no way I would take them to lunch with my sister-in-laws, after my hubby had already tested their patience at a different restaurant.

On Friday night, after the rehearsal the wedding party did not decide to go bowling, to relieve some stress and have a little fun. I did not keep my kids out way past their bedtime and when we got out to our car, we did not find our mini-van was broken into. Luckily, we had everything with us and they took nothing but burned CD's and an old car charger. The nerve of some people!

While getting ready for the wedding, I am pretty sure there was not a bottle of hair spray in my hair. My hair was not plastered to my head and there would be no way I could sleep on it and wake up with every hair in the same place as the day before.

Some of the groomsmen stayed at our house the night of the wedding and when I walked in on Sunday morning, it did not stink of boys.

Last but not least, I am not ecstatic that it is finally fall!!!

I am not prefect, someday I will realize that! Now you know some of my imperfections!

Wedding Picture Sneak Peak!

Believe it or not, I did not have my camera on me much, because I had either a kid in hand or was busy with the wedding party taking pictures! I forgot how much work it is to be in the wedding party. We had a blast, the wedding went off with no problems and their photographer was AMAZING! Check out some of his past work for yourself. Adam Kennedy Photography!
These pictures were actually taken by one of the videographers, that we know IRL...

The glowing bride!

Mommy Confessions

     Mommy Confessions

You know all those tags and labels they put on products, as warnings to mommies, what to remember or what NOT to do and all those articles in parenting magazines on the things you shouldn't do while raising children?! I am joining in with Jennifer from Blonde Ambition and admitting my mommy confessions. Here are my mommy confessions, where I just think I know better.

* I let Chase use a knife to spread his peanut butter and jelly on his sandwich. I know it could still technically injure him, but the sooner he learns to make his own lunch..the better. Only partially kidding. :)
* I let Abby sit on the counter, while I am getting ready, while my curling iron is on. It isn't close to her and yes, she has touched it before, but I am hoping she knows better and won't do it again.
* On stressful days, I might let Chase and Abby watch more than 2 hours of T.V. Sometimes I just need the peace and quiet that a movie brings. Don't get me wrong, I am not letting them watch Pee Wee Herman, I make sure it is always 100% educational...there is nothing Curious George can't teach you. ;)

* I let Chase and Abby have juice everyday. I know it is sugar that they don't  need, but who really wants to drink water all day?! Surley not a 2 and 4 year old.

This week is Party Food!!!!

My favorite recipe for Party food is:

Frozen Chocolate Bananas

Ingredients- (I usually double the recipe)
  • 2 ripe but firm bananas
  • 6 ounces dark chocolate, chopped, or semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup granola, chopped pecans and walnuts, or sprinkles (optional)
Directions-
  1. Line a baking sheet with nonstick foil or parchment paper.
  2. Cut the bananas in half and insert a Popsicle stick into each half, as shown. Place them on the baking sheet and freeze for 15 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate with the oil in a Pyrex measuring cup in the microwave (check it every 30 seconds) or in a half-full pan of simmering water (about 2 minutes). Stir until smooth.
  4. Roll each banana half in the chocolate, then quickly sprinkle with your topping (if using).
  5. Freeze until the chocolate sets, 30 minutes. Serve or freeze in an airtight container for up to a week.

 Mac & Cheese Cupcakes

Ingredients-
  • 8 ounces small elbow macaroni
  • Olive oil
  • 1½ cups whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar
  • Butter
  • Seasoned bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons chives, snipped
Directions-
  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
  2. Cook the macaroni until tender. Drain, toss with a little bit of the oil, and set aside.
  3. In a medium nonstick saucepan, whisk together the milk and cornstarch until well blended. Stirring often, bring to a boil over medium heat.
  4. Stir in the mustard, pepper, and salt. Reduce heat to low and simmer until thickened.
  5. Stir in the cheddar until it melts, then fold in the macaroni.
  6. Butter two cupcake pans and coat with the bread crumbs. (Be sure to shake off the excess.)
  7. Fold the chives into the macaroni mixture. Spoon the mixture into the pans and top with bread crumbs to taste.
  8. Bake until golden on top, 15 to 25 minutes.

Both of my recipes would probably be better at a party with kids, but who knows, you might just like them too! Ok, now it's our turn, what is your favorite salad recipe?? Don't forget to link up, so we can copy down your recipe too! Next week is favorite Chicken dinner recipe!

Summer's Blog

Summer needs your prayers!

I just got done giving a blog makeover to a great fellow bloggers blog, who's daughter needs out prayers. Summer is a 3 year old precious little girl that was diagnosed with Rhabdoid tumor of the kidney, stage 2. She is currently undergoing 8 cycles of chemotherapy and has already finished her 11 treatments of radiation.
Please stop by Summer's blog and wish her parents some words of wisdom and prayer. I made her a button too, so we can spread her name around and have more prayers for her.
